💔 A Truth Too Heavy to Bear
When Friendship Never Fades-20-“How can you regret like this now, Meera? There is still a big truth you don’t know. I had promised him that I wouldn’t tell you. But if you still don’t know it even now, that promise will lose its value… so listen—Chiru has only a few days left to live.” The moment Nidhi said those words, Meera froze completely. Her heart skipped a beat, and fear slowly crept into her voice. “Nidhi… what are you saying? Why would he die?” she asked, unable to process the truth.
Nidhi took a deep breath, her eyes filled with pain and helplessness. “What I’m saying is true, Meera. Chiru’s death is not far. He has childhood Alzheimer’s, a serious brain-related illness that he has been suffering from since childhood. That’s why he couldn’t remember what he studied and fell behind in his education. Later, when he was injured while saving his mother, the truth about his illness came out. He made us promise not to tell anyone… and now he is counting his final days. He has suffered enough throughout his life—at least let him feel that you were beside him in his last moments.”

Those words pierced Meera’s heart like a sharp arrow. In an instant, her entire world collapsed, and she fell to the ground, clutching her head in unbearable pain. “Oh God… what have I done? Without knowing this truth, I made such a terrible mistake. I hurt him so much… I gave him nothing but pain. Why did you make me such a horrible person?” she cried, consumed by guilt and regret.
Nidhi tried to calm her down, but Meera held her hand tightly, desperation evident in her eyes. “Nidhi… I made a huge mistake. I need to go to him, fall at his feet, and ask for forgiveness. Please… take me to him,” she pleaded. Nidhi softly replied, “Meera, let the wedding happen first… I’ll take you to him afterward.” But Meera shook her head firmly, unable to wait even a moment longer. “No… it’s already too late. I don’t want to delay anymore,” she said and rushed out of the room in panic.
🚨 A Sudden Turn Towards Tragedy
As Meera ran around anxiously searching for Chiru, Prakash noticed her distressed state and approached her with concern. “Meera, what happened? Why are you so tense? Whom are you searching for?” he asked gently. She grabbed his hand and pleaded, “Uncle, I need to see Chiru urgently. Please tell me where he is.” Prakash replied calmly, “He’s not here, dear. We forgot to bring the mangalsutra from Madikeri, so he went to get it. He’ll be back soon.”
Just as he finished speaking, Tulasi rushed in with urgency written all over her face. “Sir, please come quickly,” she said, her voice trembling. “Where? The muhurtham is about to begin,” he responded, confused. “Sir, we need to go to the hospital immediately,” she insisted. The seriousness in her tone made everyone uneasy. Without wasting another second, the wedding preparations came to a halt, and everyone rushed towards the hospital, hearts filled with fear.
When they reached the hospital, the truth hit them like a storm—Chiru had met with an accident. Everyone stood frozen, unable to believe what they had just heard. Meera, unable to bear the pain, sat near the temple corner, praying helplessly with tears streaming down her face. Meanwhile, Tulasi came out of the operation room while doctors continued treating Chiru inside.
Sathyaprakash stood leaning against a wall, completely shattered and lost in shock. Tulasi approached him quietly and said, “Sir, I need to talk to you… please come aside.” Unnoticed by them, Meera, who was still near the temple, overheard their conversation. Tulasi asked carefully, “Sir, has anyone in your family ever had Alzheimer’s?” He replied, “No… why?” Taking a deep breath, she said, “Sir, I must tell you the truth now. Chiru has childhood Alzheimer’s.”
💔 A Hidden Past Revealed
“What… since when?” Sathyaprakash asked in disbelief. Tulasi explained, “It’s an incurable brain disease. He has had it since childhood, and it’s usually hereditary.” After a brief silence, Sathyaprakash spoke with a heavy heart, revealing a truth he had kept hidden for years. “To be honest… Chiru is not my son,” he said, leaving Tulasi stunned.

He continued slowly, his voice trembling with emotion. “When Meera was little, she used to cry endlessly. No matter what we did, she wouldn’t stop. One day, I took her to the estate to calm her down. That’s when I saw a small child—smiling and taking tiny steps. I didn’t know whose child he was. Perhaps he had been abandoned because of his illness. But the moment Meera saw him, she stopped crying and started smiling. That child… was Chiru.”
“From that day, Chiru grew up alongside Meera. He brought happiness into her life, filling our home with smiles. But ironically, his own life lacked happiness. One day, while saving me, he got injured, and we conducted an MRI scan. That’s when we discovered his illness. From that moment, he lived every day with the fear of death. And today… it feels like that feared moment has finally arrived.”
Tulasi lowered her head and said softly, “Because of Alzheimer’s, his brain cells were already weak. Now, due to a severe blood clot in his brain, survival is extremely difficult.” Hearing this, Sathyaprakash broke down completely, unable to hold back his tears. Meera, who had overheard everything, was shattered beyond words, her heart sinking deeper into despair.
Soon, the doctor came out and looked at Nakul with sympathy. “We tried our best, but the blood clot is too severe. The brain isn’t receiving blood circulation. At most… he may live for another thirty minutes. I’m sorry,” he said before walking away. Those words echoed like thunder, breaking everyone completely. With heavy hearts, they slowly entered the room.
Meera rushed to Chiru and fell at his feet, crying uncontrollably. “I don’t even deserve to ask for your forgiveness. I gave you so much pain. You gave me happiness, but I took away yours. I am the worst friend…” she sobbed. Chiru, barely conscious, slowly opened his eyes and held her hand gently. “Don’t say that… you should always smile,” he whispered with great difficulty.
Struggling to speak, Chiru said, “I… want to see… your wedding with Nakul… that is my last wish.” His voice was faint, but his desire was clear. Respecting his final wish, Nakul tied the mangalsutra around Meera’s neck right there in the hospital room. A faint smile appeared on Chiru’s face, as if he had finally found peace.

🕊️ A Silence That Echoed Forever
Meera held his hand tightly, tears flowing endlessly. “Chiru… please don’t leave me. I want to spend time with you… I want those moments to stay as beautiful memories forever. Please… don’t leave me,” she pleaded. But Chiru, with his last breath, whispered, “That… luck… is not mine…” And in the next moment, his breathing stopped.
His eyes remained open, but the life within them had faded. A single tear rolled down his cheek, marking his silent goodbye. Meera shook him desperately, calling his name again and again, but there was no response. The entire room filled with cries, but Meera stood still, refusing to accept the truth.
“He’s not dead… don’t cry,” she said in denial. She ran to Tulasi and asked, “Why isn’t he talking?” Tulasi, holding back tears, replied, “He can’t hear you anymore… he has gone far away.” But Meera refused to believe it. “He won’t leave me… he never left me before,” she said, laughing helplessly through her pain.
Nakul held her tightly and said, “Chiru has left us… only his memories remain.” Slowly, Meera walked back to him, fell to her knees, and screamed his name with all her strength. But there was no one left to hear her. Suddenly, she remembered the words she had once said—“I feel like I should stay here forever, even after death.”

And just like that… his wish came true. Chiru was buried near that white house, where his presence would remain forever. Though he left the world, his love, sacrifice, and memories stayed alive in everyone’s hearts.
❤️ The Meaning of True Friendship
People like Chiru exist in everyone’s life. No matter how much we hurt them, they stay with us, holding onto the trust they have in us. But sadly, we fail to value their love when they are with us. Only after they leave do we realize how important they were.
Life becomes meaningful only when we recognize the love and care of those who truly value us. Friendship becomes eternal only when we live believing that friendship itself is life. And with that thought, this story is dedicated to all true friends who love selflessly and stay forever in our hearts.
“Sneha Chirayu” ❤️
