31 Years of Relentless Struggle Ends in Victory

Some stories are not just stories. They can be life lessons, sources of inspiration, and ignite a desire in us to become like the characters within them. This story began 31 Years of ago with Relentless Struggle Ends in Victory, yet its journey became so impactful that it continues to inspire countless people.

Pranjal Singh and Kinjal Singh

A woman is a wonderful force, an immense strength. No matter the hardships, she has the power to stand firm and achieve her goals. This is the extraordinary story of three remarkable women born out of ordinary circumstances: Kinjal Singh, Pranjal Singh, and Vibha Singh.

Does Honesty Have a Price?

When Vibha Singh lost her husband, K.P. Singh, her eldest daughter Kinjal was only two years old, and Pranjal had not yet been born. K.P. Singh was known as a highly capable and honest officer, feared by corrupt officials, criminals, and bribe-takers alike.

He probably never realized that in our country, there is often no place for such honest officers. Ironically, it was his integrity that set the stage for his death. The hidden resentment of his colleagues against him eventually turned into a deadly conspiracy. Unbeknownst to him, a sinister plan to kill him was already in motion — a plan that he never realized until it was too late.

The fateful event took place on March 12, 1982, in Madhopur village, Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh. On that day, K.P. Singh received false information that two criminals, Ram Bhulavan and Arjun Pasi, were hiding nearby. He led a team of police officers, believing they were his trusted colleagues. In reality, those same officers were the ones plotting his murder.

He entered a house where a criminal named Ram Baran Shukla was said to be hiding, but no one was there. Standing behind the door were Sub-Inspector R.B. Saroj and two constables, who suddenly opened fire on him. K.P. Singh fell into a pool of blood, realizing that this was no accident, but a planned murder.

To hide the crime, they also shot and killed 12 villagers, ensuring that the deaths would be reported as casualties from a gunfight between the police and criminals. The case was closed, falsely claiming that DSP Singh and the others had died during an encounter.

Fighting Against Injustice

Vibha Singh lost the man who had been her life’s support. Her grief was indescribable, yet she endured it and focused on the future of her two daughters.

A few days later, fragments of the truth about her husband’s death slowly reached her. As she investigated, she discovered a shocking reality: her husband had been murdered. Fueled by the desire for justice, she was determined to fight back. The legal system was slow, and evidence was difficult to collect, yet she vowed:

“I will ensure those responsible for my husband’s murder receive the punishment they deserve. Only then will his soul find peace. I will involve my daughters in this fight, and we will continue it relentlessly until justice is served.”

Vibha Singh worked in the Varanasi Treasury and dedicated her entire salary to the court cases and her daughters’ education. At that time, her daughters were her only support. Growing up as a single parent, her daughters gradually began to understand the depth of their mother’s struggle. Unlike other children who spent their childhoods playing and enjoying carefree lives, they spent theirs in courtrooms and study rooms. Without their father’s protection or mother’s constant presence, they had no choice but to rely on her hard work for survival and guidance.

A Life-and-Death Struggle

Years passed. Every step up the court ladder replaced hope with disappointment. Her faith in the judiciary was tested, and the struggle took a toll on her health. She was diagnosed with cancer, and her body grew weak. Yet her fear was not death itself — it was leaving her daughters without a secure future or justice for their father.

At every stage of life, Vibha Singh had fought tirelessly. Now she faced the ultimate challenge: battling life and death itself. She realized she could not continue this fight forever. Before she passed away, she imparted the importance of this struggle to her daughters and entrusted them with its continuation.

She dreamt that her daughters would hold high positions in society, remain honest, fight against injustice, and restore fairness in a corrupt world. She hoped that by achieving these goals, justice for her husband’s murder would also be secured. With this hope, she peacefully closed her eyes.

Sisters United in Struggle

Left alone, Kinjal and Pranjal continued the fight together. Kinjal, who had lost her father before even forming childhood memories, and Pranjal, who had never seen her father’s face, could hardly imagine losing their mother too. Growing up, they faced life alone, striving for independence and showing remarkable courage, inspired by their mother’s determination.

After Vibha Singh’s passing, they found shelter with relatives. While other girls enjoyed carefree college life, these sisters remained focused on their studies. Supporting each other, they buried their grief and stayed committed to their goals.

Academic and Civil Service Success

Kinjal Singh excelled academically, graduating with gold medal honors. Both sisters then moved to Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi, for UPSC preparation, studying day and night. Their hard work paid off:

2007: Both cleared UPSC

Kinjal Singh: 25th rank (IAS)
Pranjal Singh: 252nd rank (IRS)

Victory After a Long Struggle

Their fight was not in vain. In 2013, the CBI Special Court in Lucknow declared that DSP K.P. Singh’s death was a murder.

Five policemen — Radheshyam, Ram Sewak, Ram Pal, Chandra Prakash, and Baijnath — were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Supreme Court awarded the death penalty to the main culprits: Sub-Inspector Saroj, Head Constable Ram Naik Pandey, and Ram Karan Singh.

After 31 Years of Relentless Struggle Ends in Victory, justice was finally served.

Turning Tragedy into Inspiration

The sisters ensured justice was served not through revenge, but through law. From childhood grief to becoming officers of the nation, their lives became a testament to courage, perseverance, and integrity.

Kinjal Singh, the elder daughter (IAS), and Pranjal Singh (IRS), carried forward their mother’s vision. Together with Vibha Singh, their mother who laid the foundation for justice, they turned tragedy into inspiration.

Kinjal Singh said through tears:
“Our honest father and our mother, who taught us never to tolerate injustice, are our greatest inspiration.”

This story is not just about one family; it is the story of three courageous women whose strength and determination continue to inspire generations.
